We build carports and sheds around Bendigo and central Victoria. Andrew Siggs is a registered builder, and we like every part of a project to be done correctly, including the parts out the back.
The City of Greater Bendigo says a shed, garage or carport needs a building permit. The City does not issue building permits itself, so you engage a private building surveyor.

Questions people ask
Do I need a permit for a carport or shed in Victoria?
For a carport, plan on yes. The City of Greater Bendigo says a shed, garage or carport needs a building permit.
The state exemption is only for small freestanding buildings: 10 square metres or less, no more than 3 metres high (2.4 metres if within 1 metre of a boundary), no further forward than the front wall of the house, and not masonry.

How much does a carport cost to build?
It depends on the size, the materials, the ground it sits on and the permit. The only firm number is a written quote for your carport.
